Daddy's Little EarnerA heartbreaking true story of a brave little girl’s escape from violence.

Maria’s dad was a pimp, living in a world of thieves and street walkers, he forced her into prostitution at an early age. Her mother, tiring of turning tricks for her husband, walked out, leaving Maria in his chaotic, violent and sometimes cruel care. Her father was abusing her when she was just nine years old. He was getting a prostitute friend to dress her up in stockings and make-up. By the time she was fourteen he was selling her on the streets of the red light district in Norwich. Despite everything, she still loved him. At fifteen she ran away to King’s Cross with an older lover who turned out to be just another pimp. Furious at losing a nice little earner her father involved the police and both he and the other man were jailed for living off Maria’s immoral earnings.

This is Maria’s shocking story and her painful journey to escape her horrific childhood and build a new life for herself and her sons.

Sunday, August 24th, 2008

Devil Bones - Kathy ReichsDr Temperance Brennan, a forensic anthropologist is called to the scene in an underground chamber in a seedy, dilapidated house in Charlotte, North Carolina. She fights her claustrophobia and the awful smell of rotting flesh as she descends the very precariously steep, makeshift wooden steps. A ritulistic display awaits her: slain chickens, a goat and a skull, ghostly pale with the lower jaw missing and the empty orbits staring back at her. Beads and antlers are suspended above two cauldrons.

The skull is confirmed as that of a young black female - but how did she die and when? Then, just as Tempe is working to determine the post-mortem interval, another body is uncovered - a headless torso carved with Satanic symbols. Citizen vigilantes blame Devil-worshippers and begin a witch-hunt, intent on revenge.

Tempe makes another chilling discovery and the more she learns, the more she seems to be putting herself in danger…

Damaged - Cathy Glass

Damaged: The heartbreaking true story of a lost little girl.

Jodie has been through numerous foster families. She is eight years old, violent and aggressive. Cathy glass, an experienced foster carer, is pressured into taking Jodie as a new placement. Despite her reservations, Cathy decides to do it to protect Jodie from being placed in an institution, even though her behaviour has seen off five carers in four months.

After arriving, Jodie’s first act is to soil herself and wipe it on her face whilst wickedly grinning. She greets Cathy’s teenage children with a sharp kick to the shins. She cuts her own wrist, then smears the blood on her face on her first night in Cathy’s care.

As time goes by Jodie begins to trust Cathy and her behaviour improves. She reveals details of her abuse at the hands of her parents and others. It becomes clear that Jodie’s parents were involved in a sickening paedophile ring, with neighbours and Social Services not seeing what should have been obvious signs. It’s also clear that Jodie needs psychiatric therapy as she becomes increasingly withdrawn. Cathy urges the Social Services to provide funding, but instead they decide to take Jodie away from her, and place her in a residential unit.

Jodie’s future is still up in the air, even though the paedophile ring is investigated and brought to justice. Cathy promises that she will stand by Jodie no matter what. Her love for the abandoned child is unbreakable.
